Mebuyan Pulse is an immersive, warping, spherical architecture—an organism of form and rhythm—rising as a large scale installation at Burning Man 2026.

Spanning 23 x 53 x 31 feet (7.1 x 16.2 x 9.4 meters), it gathers bodies, light, and sound into a shared field.

The Structure

Suspended ten feet above the ground, Mebuyan Pulse appears as a constellation of interconnected spheres—like a drifting colony of bubbles, each varying in scale and presence.

Inside, cosmic, psychedelic patterns reminiscent of stained glass will transform each pod into a distinct space for isolation or meditation, each offering a different sensory quality.

Designed to invite gathering and exchange, six interconnected spheres form a walkable, climbable network—an open field for movement, encounter, and shifting perspective. The work unfolds not as a fixed object, but as a spatial experience, continuously redefined by those who pass through it.

In the spirit of Axis Mundi, the installation becomes a temporary center of gravity: a living conduit between community, myth, and the natural world. It gestures toward the invisible threads that bind us—holding bodies, stories, and cultures in relation across ever-shifting social landscapes.

Decorative Elements

Composed in part from the bones of our 2022 structure, Mebuyan Vessel, the work is transformed through a new aesthetic language into something both familiar and entirely new.

Recycled materials—including 5-gallon water jugs, green fluorescent plastic bottles, and laser-cut wooden panels sliced into shingle-like tiles—are composed to create reflective surface patterns. These are interwoven with bamboo slats and hand-woven palm-leaf parasols.

Pigments and UV-reactive finishes will maintain a vibrant daytime palette and strong fluorescence at night.

The Pulse — Lighting and Sound

At its core, Mebuyan Pulse breathes through a sequence of timed activations: rhythmic gatherings that unfold as fleeting rituals. Each pulse is an invitation—to pause, to attune, and to reflect on the unseen networks of care and collective support that move across cultures and through us all.

A new 11-foot ground sphere anchors the installation, clad in laser-cut metal skin that reveals only narrow slits—allowing patterned light to emerge from within.

Timed activations unfold through multicolored laser projections from within the sphere, synchronized with sound and spoken word.

An expanded lighting system, including 8 pole-mounted fixtures and 5 ground lights, will wash the structure in shifting illumination, while 2 sky beams render the work visible from a distance.

Black lights interact with fluorescent surfaces, casting the installation in an ethereal glow.

Mebuyan — The Concept

The title comes from Mebuyan, a goddess from the Bagobo mythology, an indigenous people of the Philippines.

A goddess of life and death, of the afterlife, traditionally represented as a woman living underground, with breasts covering her entire body.

She is said to nourish the spirits of dead children, guiding them into their journey to adulthood—an archetype of protection and transformation.

The vision for Mebuyan Pulse is to be a nourishing, transformative, and cosmic place for wanderers, at Black Rock City and beyond, for their personal and collective growth.
